There is nothing like the joy and happiness that comes from bringing a baby into this universe. Our daughter, Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty was born 2 months ago on May 29th. We just wanted to put out good music, directly to the people that have been here since the beginning. We didn’t want to do a big campaign or anything over the top with this. It’s where I’ve been the last year, through all the ups and downs. This is why “Growing up” felt like the right song to re-emerge with. When you try to escape yourself, life has an interesting way of creating situations that force you to come back. The other half is trying to figure out how to grow up myself. When I got back to the cabin the next day, Ryan had made a new beat that would eventually become the song you’re listening to. I was going back to the city once a week to attend a birthing class with Tricia. I was finally having fun in the studio for the first time in years. ![]() And I knew I had to change.ĥ months later we were recording in a remote cabin away from the density that is Seattle. When Tricia walked out of the bathroom, I knew. But in actuality the hypothetical “dad" version of me looked completely different than the man whose heart was beating out of his chest on the carpet, praying to a god or spirit I hadn’t talked to in months. I basically assumed that I'd have it all together. I held on to clear expectations of where I wanted be in my career, my age, my level of self-care, and my maturity. I’ve always had some make-believe image in my head of who I would be as a father. Scared of the process of staring at myself through a page and seeing someone that I wasn’t proud of. But I think back to that night: praying on the floor at 2am as Tricia went to the bathroom to take the pregnancy test I’d just purchased from Walgreens. It would make for a far more polished and respectable story. I wish that I could say that I was in a “better place” when I found out the news. Somehow last year we discovered Perception makes a deluxe Swifty 11. But we couldn't find them for sale nearby, only as rentals. Current designs' Kestrel seemed to accommodate her better than my conduit did. She didn't want a sit on top, but has wide hips that made smaller cockpits very uncomfortable. I was searching for a kayak that my girlfriend was comfortable in for about a year. It is worth it to try sitting in other boats. For the money and on sale I don't think you can find a better deal. Whenever you get to Dick's, look for the 13 foot Conduit and sit in it if they have one. The old town boats look great, I agree! Where I live they are hard to find. 2) Swap the Mustang for the Perception Swifty, and find some storage solution for camping trips/long day trips. It's $229, and after this season, it will only be used 3-4 times a year. So, what would you do? 1) Keep the Mustang 100X. It's pretty lacking on features vs the Mustang, but I know Perception vs Pelican is a quality no-brainer. Both boats seem like fantastic deals, but I'm concerned about storage if/when I go camping with the Swifty, as well as the open design (no contained dry spots). My "back-out" plan is to receive the Mustang 100X shipment, then take it back to my local Dick's and buy a Perception Swifty 95 instead. My experience with Pelican yaks hasn't been bad, but I've seen some quality complaints about Pelican in general that I wasn't aware of before my purchase. ![]() Since we're recreational yaker's planning to camp, the storage on this model was really appealing vs other options, but I'm concerned about quality. In the excitement of holiday sales, I picked up the Pelican Mustang 100X from Dick's for $229. Features may be more important than quality, but I suppose that depends on how wide the quality gap is. She won't go out as often as I will, so this boat needs some longevity, but doesn't need to be the best in my fleet. I plan to use it for one season, then buy something in the 12'-14' range next year. ![]() I'm a recreational kayaker, and this boat will eventually be my wife's. Hoping you guys can offer some advice on a recent purchase. I'm a noob yaker who's excited about my new hobby. » Filter by Shorelines: Destination Questions & Trip Reports » Filter by News, Notices, & Announcements
